Seller story: CANVAS

Sarah Pool, former Division 1 Athlete and Founder of Canvas, experienced firsthand the struggle to find nutritious and delicious whole food / real food options when she started competing in marathons and triathlons. She had adopted a plant-based diet and minimized the amount of processed foods she was eating to get to peak form, but when it came to quick and convenient nutrition in training, there were few whole food/real food options available on the market. Realizing she wasn't the only person seeking real food snacks, she founded an organic snack food company called Pacific Superfood Snacks which was later purchased by Made In Nature, where the products continue to be sold.

Soon after the sale, Sarah's reputation drew a large beverage producer to approach her about leading an initiative to transform brewers spent grain into healthy food and beverage products. Thus, Canvas was born. Their plant-based, real food fiber + protein shakes are just the first product.

Canvas' dream is to utilize as much spent grain as possible to bring better nutrition to the world. Not only are they committed to creating sustainable solutions for our food system but the barley from spent grain is one of the world's most remarkable and powerful foods, rich in fiber and particularly prebiotic fiber, which is essential for the human body.

All Disease Begins in the Gut

Healthy living is a priority for many people these days; we all know that. After all, entire industries have been built around exercise and fitness, food trends and dietary supplements. But what you might not know is that a healthy body starts quite simply with a healthy digestive system. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, is quoted as saying that "all disease begins in the gut." And while that's not 100% accurate, it is true that the gastrointestinal system contains 10 times more health determining bacteria than the rest of the body, protecting us from infection, supporting our metabolism, and promoting healthy digestion & elimination.

Fiber to the Rescue!

Fiber is essential for proper digestion, but it's about so much more than just regularity. Fiber is essential for creating thriving metabolism, boosting immunity, improving mental clarity, reducing inflammation, and maintaining great heart health...just to name a few! With the increase of sugar, fat and meats in the American diet over the past loo years, people have stopped consuming enough fiber. In fact, consumption has dropped by 90% in the past 100 years, contributing to a major decrease in our overall health and well-being. Our ancestors were consuming 100 grams of fiber per day and most Americans don't even get 15 grams. When Canvas learned that less than 5% of the population meets the daily recommended intake of fiber, the missing link in remarkable health was clear!
