In Conversation w/ The Founder of Food To Live

Founded in 2012 by Alex Melnik and his father, Food to Live is a family-run business with one goal: to help everyone who strives to be healthy and strong by providing access to healthy foods. Food to live offers a wide range of natural, organic, and raw foods that would be a great addition to any diet. They choose the products that can really make a positive impact on the body, such as dried fruits, nuts, seeds, spices, and legumes.

Having a longstanding goal to pursue his own business and with a huge interest in the health of others and the planet, Alex explains to the Marketplace team what inspired him to launch his business, the challenges along the way and what we can expect in the future from the Food to Live brand.

MP: What was the catalyst or call that made you feel you were ready to launch your own company?

AM: I have always been open to every opportunity to start my own business. For a long time, I’ve had a strong interest in healthy food. I found myself looking for where to buy good quality organic products for my family and being left with a limited number of options. Eventually, I had the thought, why not make my hobby of finding healthier food options a matter of my life? This was the beginning of Food to Live.

MP: What made you passionate to pursue starting a business in this category field?

AM: Our biggest wish is to help both the people and the planet, so all our products are grown using advanced farming practices. We also offer a range of USDA certified organic products of the highest quality. At Food to Live, we strive to better ourselves every day, expanding our product range and improving our services to ensure every customer receives the highest level of care.

MP: What is the mission behind your company?

AM: Our overall mission is to bring the best quality of products and a variety of healthy superfoods at the lowest price possible to the public. We wanted to provide healthier options, but it was also really important to make it accessible and affordable.

MP: What do you feel makes your brand different from what is others in the same market?  

AM: Our customer service is our priority, we take care of our clients, they are our family we do go the extra mile to satisfy all needs. Many times, I wish I was our client.

MP: What was your biggest fear when you made the decision to leap and transition into a full-time business owner?

AM: I don’t have a fear; my biggest concern was if people would buy and believe in what I’m offering.

MP: In what ways do you feel your company reflects who you are as an individual?

AM: It is very important to run a business with honesty and integrity to earn the trust of all the company’s stakeholders.

MP: How does your product and overall brand impact people?

Simple, our products make people feel good by staying healthy.

MP: What has been the hardest part in launching the business and do you feel like you’ve had any major pushback/setbacks from the community and/or customers?

AM: For me, the hardest part was ensuring the stability and foundation of the business. My goal was to not only launch a business but launch a business that is sustainable and constantly growing.

MP: What do you attribute to the current success of the business?

AM: At Food to Live, we greet every customer as a friend and treat them accordingly. Our business is our family in every way as it has started from the kitchen of our home. Three generations of our family are working together to bring you top-quality foods from different corners of the world. MP: What’s your best-selling product? Do you have any personal favorites when it comes to the product you’re selling?

AM: Our best-selling products: Brazil Nuts, Macadamia Nuts, Cashew nuts, Dried Prunes, Sunflower& Poppy Seeds, Royal White Quinoa, Broccoli sprouting seeds.

MP: What advice do you have for anyone that's looking to launch their own business?

AM: Not be afraid to start and not be afraid to work hard. Love and enjoy what you do.

MP: What’s NEXT for the brand? Are there any plans to expand the existing product-line or any new creative ventures/projects in the works?

AM: We are constantly expanding the range and new markets. For example, this year we expanded the assortment by 20 percent. Now we offer more than 200 items in USA, Canada, Mexica, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain. In August, we have launched new packaging for some best- selling products and continue to work in this direction.

The Food to Live facility is A Bee Organic certified, which means that all of their organic products are completely free from GMOs, nitrates, and any other dangerous toxins. They regularly undergo the necessary inspections to prove that our company meets the stringent standards set by the USDA.
