Celebrating 135 Years of Wente Wines with A Limited-Edition Chardonnay.
In 1912, 2nd Generation Ernest Wente persuaded his father and founder, C.H. Wente to import Chardonnay cuttings from the vine nursery at the University of Montpellier France to the Livermore Valley and hand-picked the best of the best vines. Blending traditional and innovative winemaking practices, Wente draws from their estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, Monterey appellations to create an outstanding portfolio of fine wines. Today, over 80% of all California Chardonnay stems from the Wente Clone. In viticulture a “clone” refers to vines descended from a single plant by taking a cutting or bud; in theory, each vine grown on a clone is genetically identical to the original vine. Wente is recognized as one of California’s premier wine country destinations featuring wine tasting, dining, concert experiences, championship golf and more.
Wente Vineyards is the country's longest, continuously operated family-owned winery, founded in 1883. Today, 5th Generation winegrower Karl D. Wente continues the Wente Clone through the family’s legacy of Chardonnay with four different styles: Morning Fog Chardonnay, Single Vineyard Riva Ranch Chardonnay, Small Lot Eric’s Chardonnay and Nth Degree Chardonnay. This month, we’re highlighting the incredible vineyard by offering their limited-edition 135th Anniversary Celebratory Chardonnay. This particular wine was aged for 16 months in a combination of new/neutral American Oak, and some French Oak, with 20% fermented in stainless steel. The Celebratory Chardonnay has a beautifully inviting bouquet, and notes of apple, tropical fruits, and vanilla, with a long, rich finish. Bâttonage was performed with stirring of the lees taking place 1-2 times per month. Pairs perfectly with cheese and chicken. Sourced from the Wente Estate Vineyards in the Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, Monterey, Wente’s Celebratory Chardonnay is a special tribute to a remarkable journey that started in 1883 and continues today. You can now shop the anniversary bottles and more assortments of Wente wines on the Marketplace.
