Wine Steward Notes

A rich garnet color with a ruby edge, the wine opens to reveal lifted fruit aromas of bright strawberry and jammy fruit, mocha, and vanilla, along with toasty oak notes. Expressive boysenberry, blackberry, dark cherry, juicy strawberry, and toasty mocha flavors lend complexity and depth on the palate. The well-integrated oak provides structure and depth seldom seen in Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

The 2016 Overlook Pinot Noir Light is plum color in the glass with complex aromas of red and black cherry, ripe raspberry with cinnamon and subtle vanilla spice, cedar, dried orange peel, leather, cocoa, with a hint of purple flowers. Winery Erath

Country USA

Product Description

The “Oregon” Pinot Noir is the cornerstone of the Erath wine portfolio. A blend of different vineyard sites in Oregon, this wine is a fruit forward, ready-to-drink style of Pinot Noir designed to highlight the variety’s best characteristics. Our goal with this wine is simple – to make the best Pinot Noir in the world for under $20.

Wine Steward Notes

Erath wines are an expression of the land that the winery has cultivated for more than 40 years, longer than any other winery in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. The red, iron-rich Jory soils, combined with gentle breezes and warming sunshine of a marine climate, have bestowed upon Dundee a terroir of note. It has given rise to the handcrafting phenomenon, and the art of Pinot.  As one of Oregon’s wine pioneers, Dick Erath had always been as tenacious in his approach to Pinot as the Pinot grape is stubborn. The engineer-turned-viticulturist was first inspired to pursue winemaking in 1965 after an early garage experiment. After completing coursework at UC-Davis in 1968, Erath relocated his family from California to the untamed red hills of Dundee.  An unheated logger’s cabin on 49 acres would serve as home – and ad hoc winery – for several years.  The following spring, he planted the Dundee Hill’s first wine grapes – 23 varieties. Pinot Noir flourished.

Product Description

The foggy, wind-swept slopes of the Carneros region are an ideal home for Pinot Noir, a cool-climate loving grape. Great care is needed to produce fine pinot noir, a notoriously challenging and fragile variety, and the marine influences allow for gradual, flavor-building hang time needed for peak flavor maturity. The low-nutrient soils provide lower yields, and the fewer berries that do grow, with less competition for natural resources, have rich, concentrated flavors and produce a deep-colored wine.  The grapes were hand harvested into small bins in the cool of the morning, then gently de-stemmed and crushed. Select vineyard blocks were fermented as whole clusters for added depth of flavor. A portion of the wine was fermented in French oak fermentation tanks to enhance the extraction of color and flavor during the 18 days of skin contact. The new wine was gently pressed and transferred to French Oak barrels (27% new) for malolactic fermentation and seven (7) months of aging, seamlessly integrating the fruit and oak. The wine was bottled in June 2018.

Wine Steward Notes

The 2017 harvest started early following a summer of heat spikes and a growing season that began with significant rain, ending a five-year drought. While the heat waves were a concern, retained water in the quenched soils helped us maintain vigorous vines and plump, juicy clusters of fruit through the growing season. A series of wildfires at the beginning of October made international headlines, but the early harvest ensured the majority of our grapes were picked and already processed in the cellar before the fires began. Grapes for our Napa Valley Pinot Noir were picked between August 28th and September 2nd.

Product Description

Our Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a blend of Pinots from several specially selected vineyards. It amply demonstrates all the characteristics that have made this wine region world famous for its Pinot Noirs.  The Santa Lucia Highlands have long been a focus for us at Bernardus as we recognized early on the phenomenal potential of this great region. We have been producing small vineyard-designate bottlings from several of our favorite vineyards for many years. Recently, we have increased our vineyard selections and felt the time was right to bottle our Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir.  At Bernardus, all our Pinot Noir grapes are hand-picked, sorted and fermented in small, individual batches. They are then aged in the finest oak barrels until final blending, just before bottling.

Wine Steward Notes

Widely traveled and endowed with impeccable taste, Ben Pon could have chosen anywhere in the world to establish his namesake Bernardus Winery, with the intention of cultivating premier class wines. He selected Carmel Valley, with its west-facing orientation, hot days and chilly nights, and stunning beauty, confident his vineyards there could produce wines to rival the greatest on the globe. More than a quarter-century later, he’s accomplished that not only with his estate Bordeaux blend, called Marinus (after his middle name), but with a powerhouse portfolio of single-vineyard-designated Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

1 x Cline Cellars Pinot Noir

Winery Cline Cellars

Country USA

Region Sonoma County, California

Tasting Notes

Flavorful layers of raspberry, dark chocolate, cedar and lilacs

Product Description

Sonoma County is one of the finest regions for growing world-class Pinot Noir. The Clines were early pioneers in southern Sonoma County planting Pinot Noir vines almost 20 years ago. The location that Fred Cline selected benefits from a coastal mountain opening that spans from the Pacific Ocean, through the town of Petaluma and on to the San Pablo Bay. In summer, vines experience foggy mornings and cooling evenings balanced by sun-drenched warm afternoons. These growing conditions allow the fruit to hang longer, fully ripen and mature which adds bright acidity and intense flavors.  Grapes were de-stemmed and pumped directly to stainless steel fermentation tanks. We rely on indigenous yeast to begin fermentation. The cap of grape solids was pumped over two times a day to extract color and flavor, then pressed shortly after dryness. The wine settled in a stainless steel tank, then racked and aged for 7 months on 40% new French medium toasted oak, in addition to a small amount of American and Eastern European oak.

Wine Steward Notes

Cline Family Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery in Sonoma, California, built on a passion for winemaking and rooted in respect for the land.  Fred Cline started Cline Family Cellars in 1982 in Oakley, California, making his first vintages from original plantings of Mourvedre, Zinfandel, and Carignane, some of which dated back to the 1880's.  In 1989, Fred purchased a 350-acre horse farm in Carneros and moved the winery to Sonoma County. As one of the original Rhone Rangers, he began planting varietals that included a number of vineyards dedicated to Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. Since those first plantings, Fred and his wife Nancy have continued to plant vineyards throughout Sonoma County, expanding to include more classic varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Chardonnay.
